Scottish Parliament Presiding Officer’s Challenge to ICTFC Walking Footballers
We were delighted to recently host a visit of Ken Mackintosh, the Presiding Officer (Speaker) of the Scottish Parliament, who joined in the weekly walking football session run by our CommunityCoaches for predominantly over 55s.
Ken was presented with a personalised ICT top for the session at the Charleston Community Complex, which also involved players from our Under 20 squad.
Ken, a keen football fan who supports Celtic and Crystal Palace ,is forming a walking football team at the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood and would like to take them on tour, fitting in a visit to Inverness on his travels.
The challenge was readily accepted by our walking football squad, who were happy to tell him of the benefits of their weekly 90-minute sessions at Hilton Community Centre. Fitness allied to the fun of five-a-side football.
Head of Community Development, Craig Masterton, said: “Walking football is everything you love about football, with the only difference it is a foul to run! Walking football is designed to give you the chance to play the beautiful game you love but reduces the chance of injury. Its adapted format of the game provides light physical activity, providing a great way to keep fit, learn new skills and socialise at the same time!”
So there you have it. Why not join in the weekly sessions at Hilton Community Centre (between 1 pm and 2.30 pm each Thursday)? We provide the tops and water bottles and all importantly the referees!! You pay £3 per week for a fun session.
