Become 50th Signatory of Carbon CLEVER Declaration
Inverness Caledonian Thistle have become the 50th Highland business to sign the Carbon CLEVER Declaration, underlining the club’s commitment to lowering emissions and helping to tackle climate change across the region.
The Carbon CLEVER Declaration is a flagship project under the Highland Council-led Carbon CLEVER initiative, which has the aim of a carbon neutral Inverness in a low carbon Highlands by 2025.
Organisations, businesses and community groups who sign up to the Declaration receive support in making financial savings and becoming more resource efficient, while reducing their carbon emissions. Signatories are asked to commit to:
- Reduce! Take action to reduce the carbon emissions from their organisation and contribute to the Carbon CLEVER vision of a carbon neutral Inverness in a low carbon Highlands.
- Share! Work with signatories in the Highlands and share information to promote good practice.
- Encourage! Motivate and work with businesses, organisations, communities and individuals to take action to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to the potential impacts of climate change.
- Provide! Produce a short annual update of the actions taken and progress achieved towards reducing carbon emissions, so that this good practice can be shared.
The club’s chairman, Mr Kenny Cameron, said: “Inverness Caledonian Thistle is proud to be the 50th signatory of the Carbon CLEVER Declaration. The club recognises the important role it can play in helping reduce carbon emissions across the region, and we look forward to working with other signatories to promote and encourage action to tackle climate change.”
Leader of the Council, Councillor Drew Hendry, said: “The Carbon CLEVER target of a carbon neutral Inverness in a low carbon Highlands by 2025 requires engagement from all sectors of society. The Carbon CLEVER Declaration provides mechanisms of support for businesses, organisations and clubs like Caley Thistle, who are willing to commit to this vision.
Becoming a signatory to the Declaration is a fantastic way for the club to gain public recognition for its good work to date, and it will also help the club save money and further reduce emissions through increased efficiencies.”
Other signatories of the Carbon CLEVER Declaration include Tomatin Distillery, Inverness College UHI, Highlife Highland, and Changeworks.
Members of the Council’s Climate Change team will be exhibiting at the Energy Saving Expo at Eden Court, Inverness on 24th and 25th October, which will provide an ideal opportunity for businesses and individuals to find out more about the Carbon CLEVER Declaration and how they can help support the aims of Carbon CLEVER.
