Caley Thistle produced a fine performance to beat East Kilbride 6-2 away from home, which included an incredible second-half where the Caley Jags hit five in 14 minutes.

A brace from Luis Longstaff plus goals from Billy Mckay, Paul Allan, Calum MacLeod and Alfie Stewart gave the Caley Jags all three points.

The win keeps the Caley Jags in contention for qualification from the Premier Sports Cup Group Stage section, with a trip to Kirkcaldy to face Raith Rovers on Saturday.

Head Coach Scott Kellacher made one change to the side that narrowly lost 1-0 to St Johnstone on Saturday as Liam Sole replaced David Wotherspoon in the starting eleven.

Billy Mckay had a big chance to open the scoring as he turned well on the edge of the box but his shot was narrowly past the post.

East Kilbride had been free scoring in their previous league cup fixtures and they took the lead on the 15th minute.

A floated in free-kick from took a couple of deflections in the box and eventually ended with the East Kilbride trialist getting the final touch into the back of the net.

Looking to get level straight away, Liam Sole burst into the box but saw his shot go over the bar and behind.

After 21 minutes, Alfie Stewart played a fantastic ball to put Paul Allan in on goal but his effort was saved by Joe Morrison. While at the other end, John Robertson was played through on goal but saw his clipped effort hit the post.

After 25 minutes, Billy Mckay had Caley Thistle level as he met Alfie Stewart’s outside of the foot cross and headed past Joe Morrison.

Caley Thistle looked to take the lead and went close twice before the break. Winger Liam Sole saw his shot go just past the post after the half-hour mark while, just before the break, Alfie Stewart was played through on goal but saw his effort saved.

The second half was started superbly by Caley Thistle as they took the lead three minutes into the restart.

Paul Allan kept his composure as he went through on goal, after running onto Liam Sole’s flick on at a tight angle, and finished past Joe Morrison.

Just three minutes later it was 3-1, a great move saw Luis Longstaff finish it off with a great first time finish into the side netting after a great run from Joe Chalmers in the midfield.

After 54 minutes, it was 4-1. This time Calum Macleod got on the score sheet as he finished from a tight angle via a deflection. Ross Munro had released the ball early to find Luis Longstaff down the right and the winger did well to hold the ball up and play it to an oncoming MacLeod who made no mistake in the box.

The goals kept coming for Caley Thistle and after 57 minutes Luis Longstaff again on the scoresheet for his second of the match. The winger produced a fine chipped finish after an unbelievable outside of the foot pass down the right side.

A sixth was added just after the hour make, Alfie Stewart saw his free kick whipped straight into the back of the net.

Substitute David Wotherspoon was close to adding a seventh after 74 minutes on the clock but his shot came off the post.

The home side managed to pull one back late on. John Robertson saw his free-kick find the bottom corner and past Ross Munro to the frustrations of the Caley Thistle defence.

The result gives Caley Thistle still a fighting chance of qualification as they travel to face Raith Rovers on Saturday to round off the group.
