Calum MacLeod’s deflected second-half strike gave Caley Thistle all three points against Cove Rangers at Balmoral Stadium.

The result puts Scott Kellacher’s side second in the table, just one point behind Stenhousemuir after six matches.

There was one change from the side which beat Stirling Albion last Friday as Alfie Stewart replaced Chanka Zimba in the starting eleven.

In a tight affair, Caley Thistle had the first chance as Stewart broke through the middle and unleashed a strike which went just wide after 7 minutes.

Other Aberdeen loanee Alfie Bavidge had a chance of his own, as he met Calum MacLeod’s cross in the box but his effort was over.

Cove Rangers had a chance of their own in the first half, Jackson Mylchreest headed over after he met Lewis O’Donnell’s free-kick in the box.

Caley Thistle broke the deadlock after 66 minutes, Oscar MacIntyre’s cross was held up well by David Wotherspoon in the box and he layed the ball into the path of Calum MacLeod as he saw his effort deflected in past Robbie Mutch to open the scoring.

It continued to be a tight affair for the rest of the match, Liam Sole having a half-chance for Caley Thistle but his shot was held by Robbie Mutch while Ross Munro was called into action late on to hold on to Lewis O’Donnell’s effort from the edge of the box.
