Caley Thistle picked up a big away win at Cappielow with goals from Tom Walsh and Aaron Doran securing the three points. The win puts the Caley Jags in the play-off positions ahead of next weekend’s Highland Derby match against Ross County.

The home side started the game on the front foot and Micheal Tidser had the first chance of the match as he unleashed a strike just past the post.

The Caley Jags grew into the game and started to dominate play. They finally got the breakthrough through the inform Tom Walsh as he scored after 17 minutes.

Walsh was played through on goal, by a delightful ball from Polworth, and the ICTFC forward made no mistake in front of goal to score his fifth goal in his last four games.

Just a couple of minutes later, Brad Mckay could have doubled ICTFC’s lead as he met Liam Polworth’s corner but the defender’s effort was wide of the post.

Morton then had a chance to level on the 22nd minute as Bob McHugh was denied from close range by Ridgers.

Caley Thistle looked the more likely team to score and then were presented with the chance to make it two as they were awarded a penalty kick and Kerr Waddell was dismissed for the Ton.

Oakley was played in on goal and was pulled back by Waddell to earn the spot kick. Sean Welsh stepped up and had previously scored penalties against Alloa and Queen of the South this season, but his effort hit the post after he put the keeper the wrong way.

George Oakley had a chance just before the break, as he was picked out free in the box but his effort was inches wide of the post. Joe Chalmers then stepped up over a free-kick but his effort went over the bar.

John Robertson made one half-time change as Jordan White replaced George Oakley up front.

On the 47th minute, Walsh picked out Donaldson in the middle with a great ball but his effort was just wide of the post.

Liam Polworth then had a go from around 25 yards and saw his effort palmed over the bar for a corner kick.

Caley Thistle had their second from the resulting corner as it was worked short between Walsh and Polworth and Walsh’s cross was met by Aaron Doran, who saw his header go in via the crossbar.

Doran then could of had a second on the 55th minute as he broke clean through on goal but his chip landed on the roof of the net.

Just after the 60th minute mark, Polworth set up Walsh inside the box but the goalscorer put his effort over the bar.

The ten men of Morton rallied and had a chance through Millar but he blazed his chance over the bar.

The Ton then got themselves back into the match on the 72nd minute as Liam Polworth was  in the middle, Scott Tiffoney picked up the ball and went on a mazy run with him slotting the ball past Ridgers.

Caley Thistle number one Mark Ridgers was called into action as he produced a stunning save to deny Lyon from close range. The offside flag was up but Ridgers wasn’t to know that.

Joe Chalmers could have sealed it with seven minutes remaining but his shot went inches wide of the post.
