Caley Thistle kept their play-off hopes alive thanks a late David Carson goal which earned a 2-1 against Greenock Morton at Cappielow.

Scott Allardice had given the Caley Jags the lead with a superb volley but Morton equalised through Grant Gillespe’s penalty.

However, David Carson’s late winner sealed three massive points for Caley Thistle.

Billy Dodds made one change to the side which beat Partick Thistle 1-0 last weekend as Aaron Doran came into the side for Lewis Hyde. Caley Thistle were still without Wallace Duffy, Danny Devine, Roddy MacGregor and Max Ram.

The Caley Thistle Head Coach was forced into an early change after just 10 minutes, Jay Henderson tried to continue after receiving an ankle knock but he couldn’t continue and was replaced by Austin Samuels.

Goalkeeper Mark Ridgers was called into action after 22 minutes as he he has to parry Calum Waters’ shot wide.

Morton’s Robbie Muirhead went for a dink from the halfway line as looked to catch Mark Ridgers out but his shot was just over the bar.

Ridgers was called into action again after 36 minutes as he held Robbie Muirhead’s close range effort. A good move by Caley Thistle saw Billy Mckay unleash a strike from the edge of the box but his effort was just over the bar.

Sean Welsh’s good cross into the box almost found Aaron Doran in the box after 38 minutes but Morton keeper Brian Schwake was able to gather the ball.

Caley Thistle had the lead after 53 minutes, Nathan Shaw’s cross into the box was cleared as far as Scott Allardice and the midfielder took a touch and produced a volley past Schwake to open the scoring.

Hot after scoring, ICT had a penalty appeal moments later as Morton keeper Brian Schwake appeared to take down Aaron Doran in the box but nothing by the referee.

The home side were then awarded a penalty of their own after 68 minutes as Mark Ridgers was judged to have fouled Robbie Muirhead in the box.

Morton skipper Grant Gillespe stepped up and converted the penalty to make it all square.

Morton then were inches away from a winner with five minutes to go. Robbie Muirhead unleashed a free-kick from about 35 yards which cannoned off the crossbar.

But with two minutes to go, David Carson popped up with a winner for the Caley Jags. The right-back ran onto Steven Boyd’s ball after he met Nathan Shaw’s great pass and Carson ran into the box and stayed composed to finish past Schwake.
