Caley Thistle fell to defeat at Galabank as Tommy Goss’ second-half penalty secured all three points for the hosts to keep them at the top of the League 1 table.
Danny Devine was judged to have fouled Tommy Muir four minutes into the second-half and striker Tommy Goss stepped up to convert the spot kick.
Caley Thistle made one change to side which drew with Dumbarton last weekend as new signing Wallace Duffy came into the starting eleven for Keith Bray. Musa Dibaga was named on the bench this weekend after signing, after he was named as a trialist last weekend.
Annan were the more threatening in the first-half, the home side were close to taking the lead after 12 minutes as Jack Newman produced a fine save to keep out Aidan Smith’s header after he met Ryan Muir’s cross in the box.
The Annan striker went close again on the half-hour mark, as his shot went inches past the post after a good run.
Caley Thistle turned to the bench at the break as Calum MacLeod replaced Adam Brooks.
Four minutes into the second-half, Annan were awarded a penalty. Danny Devine was judged to have fouled Tommy Muir in the box by the referee.
Tommy Goss stepped up and scored to give Annan the lead.
Caley Thistle pressed for an equaliser and Danny Devine went close as he connected with Charlie Gilmour’s free-kick but his header was wide.
With 15 minutes left, Caley Thistle had two big chances as Charlie Gilmour saw an effort saved by Jamie Smith from inside the box and then from the rebound Danny Devine’s header hit the underside of the bar after he met Luis Longstaff’s cross in the box.
There was a big chance for an equaliser late on as Robbie Thompson’s ball found Keith Bray in the middle but his effort was just wide.
Caley Thistle now face Montrose at the Caledonian Stadium next weekend.
