ICTWFC Manager Karen Mason looks ahead to this Sunday’s Women’s Scottish Cup tie against Rangers WFC at the Caledonian Stadium, in what will be the biggest Women’s match held in the Highlands!
Entry is via donation on Sunday at the Caledonian Stadium. 1pm kick-off.
Firstly Karen, how is the excitement building ahead of the Scottish Cup tie against Rangers this Sunday?
“It’s getting really exciting now we are only a few days away, the draw seems a long time ago now so it’s been a long wait. The girls are all looking forward to it.”
How big an occasion is this for the team and how is the squad feeling ahead of this one?
“Without doubt this is the biggest match in our short history as ICTWFC. It’s an opportunity to test ourselves up against some of the best players in the country. The squad are all looking forward to the experience.”
How have you found the preparation for this one with the long winter break?
“Due to this game being the first one back, the players never got a winter break, we have trained throughout and have had a couple of friendlies to help us keep ticking over which will not only help for this weekend but also for the league games at the end of the month.”
Rangers are currently the top side in the country, how big a challenge will Sunday’s match be?
“I don’t think it gets much bigger to be honest. We are the massive underdogs up against a team of full time professionals who put multiple goals past teams in their own division. There is absolutely no expectations on us what so ever. I just want the girls to go out there, make a good account of themselves and make it as difficult as possible for them.”
It’s another chance to play at the Caledonian Stadium and we expect a great crowd at this one, does that add to the excitement?
“The girls love playing at the stadium and the professionalism it brings. Having a good crowd will be a massive boost and will only add to the great occasion it’s expected to be.“
Just finally, a message to everyone thinking of coming along to the big match on Sunday?
“We would really appreciate everyone’s support whether you have been to one of our games before or not. What better time to come along to see your local women’s team and the current top team in the country.“
