After a fantastic opening day 4-1 win against Greenock Morton away from home, ICTWFC play their first home game of the new campaign as they face Ayr United WFC at Millburn Academy on Sunday.
Manager Karen Mason spoke to ictfc.com ahead of Sunday’s match:
Looking back at last weekend’s win over Morton, how pleasing was it to start the season with three points?
It’s always good to kick start the season with 3 points especially on the road. I was really pleased with how well we played for the majority of it and how we controlled the game. We played some quality football and a lot of the time Morton couldn’t get near us.
It was good to see some returning faces to the squad that missed large parts of last season through injury, you must have been happy with that?
It always great to see players back playing after some time out and it’s testament to the hard work they have all put in to their recoveries. Katie Cleland was back at the tail end of last season but is now looking more like her old self. Jana Brady made the bench for the first time and although she didn’t make an appearance having her back in and around the squad is a massive boost. Her leadership, work rate and determination is a real asset.
This Sunday is the first home match of the season, how is the squad looking forward to it?
We always enjoy the prospect of home games and not having to get on the bus. The girls are excited to get on the new home kits and get out and perform in front of their friends, families and supporters.
Ayr had a win on their first game of the season last week too, what type of game do you expect this weekend?
We expect a really tough match against Ayr. We didn’t manage to beat them last year and they are a team in the league that are organised, hard working and a good footballing side. So we know we are going to have to be at our best to keep the 3 points in Inverness.
