Goals from Morgan Boyes, Cameron Harper and Sean McAllister helped Caley Thistle to a 3-1 win against Greenock Morton at the Caledonian Stadium.
However, Caley Thistle’s victory was not enough to avoid finishing in the cinch Championship play-off position with Queen’s Park beating Airdrieonians 2-0 at Hampden Park. Caley Thistle will now face Montrose over two legs in the semi-final, firstly on Tuesday 9th May at Links Park, 7.45pm and then the second leg will take place on Saturday 11th May at the Caledonian Stadium.
Morgan Boyes opened the scoring for Caley Thistle after the half-hour mark with a superb strike into the top corner from a Cameron Harper corner.
Morton equalised through former Caley Thistle player Kirk Broadfoot as his header was in as a clearance from Alex Samuel was enough to keep it out.
Caley Thistle were awarded a penalty after 53 minutes, as Sean McAllister was fouled by Alan Power in the box. Cameron Harper stepped up to take the penalty and slotted it past Morton keeper Ryan Mullen.
Morton were reduced to ten men as Robbie Muirhead was shown a yellow card for simulation and another for his subsequent reaction.
Sean McAllister got an important third for Caley Thistle to seal the game as he met Billy Mckay’s low cross into the box.
