Caley Thistle progressed to the Fourth Round of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup thanks to late goals from substitutes David Wotherspoon and Billy Mckay, to beat Cowdenbeath 2-0 at the Caledonian Stadium.
The win sees Caley Thistle go into Sunday evening’s Fourth Round Draw. The win see Duncan Ferguson extend his unbeaten run as Manager to 7 matches.
Ferguson made 7 changes to the side from last weekend’s draw against Dunfermline with Cameron MacKay, Wallace Duffy, Zak Delaney, Sean Welsh, Adam Brooks, Luis Longstaff and Cillian Sheridan coming into the side.
It was a frustrating first half for the Caley Jags, but the home side could’ve had the lead after just 6 minutes as Luis Longstaff’s free-kick found Cillian Sheridan in the box but his header was cleared off the line.
Nathan Shaw saw an effort turned over the bar after meeting Luis Longstaff corner in the middle after 13 minutes.
Cowdenbeath looked to threaten themselves in the first half but Matthew McDonald saw his shot was range go just past the post after 24 minutes.
Caley Thistle started the second-half strongly as they looked to break the deadlock.
A good Caley Thistle move saw Adam Brooks having a shot blocked after Nathan Shaw and Wallace Duffy combined well down the left side.
Striker Cillian Sheridan had two major chances with the first coming after 50 minutes, as he got on the end of Nathan Shaw’s ball but the striker’s shot was blocked by Craig Hepburn.
Sheridan had his second chance just 8 minutes later as the striker intercepted a loose back-pass but Jordan got back with a big tackle.
The deadlock was finally broken after 81 minutes, as substitute David Wotherspoon opened the scoring with an effort from range.
Caley Thistle doubled their lead four minutes later through Billy Mckay, Nathan Shaw capitalised on a loose pass to feed the ball to Billy Mckay who unleashed a fine finish.
