Inverness Caledonian Thistle have won the league with a magnificent 7-0 victory over Airdrie at the weekend.

The Caley Jags in question are our fantastic U17s who clinched the SFA’s Club Academy Scotland League System GP 2.

The Airdrie win was the culmination of a great season that commenced last August and included then Premiership clubs Dundee, St Johnstone, and Ross County along with Livingston, Morton, and Queen of the South from the Championship.

Along the way, the jubilant Jags only lost one match out of 24, winning 22 and scoring 104 goals in the process!

Charlie Christie, Head of Youth Development, said: “Saturday’s result and league success was the culmination of several years’ hard work with this particularly talented group of local young players who have been a credit to themselves and the club.

“Several of the club’s coaches have contributed to their on-going development and, personally, I have found them a real pleasure to work with. In the past three seasons, their excellent attitude, work ethic, and desire to improve has been very apparent.”

Nine of the squad were recently taken on as modern apprentices by ICT and are now commencing their pre-season training.”

There is real potential within the group who are locally based and hopes are high that several of them can make the breakthrough to the first team.

Charlie added: “The triumph is something they should be very proud of as the SFA U17s league is hugely competitive.

“The hard work starts now as they look to make their mark as apprentices at ICT and step up to the first team. They certainly have the potential and it would be fantastic for the club and the local community to see these young Highland men make the grade.”
