The Duncan Ferguson era at Inverness Caledonian Thistle started with victory at Gayfield Park with goals coming from Luis Longstaff, Aaron Doran and Billy Mckay.

Ferguson named an unchanged side from the team which was beaten 1-0 by Dundee United last weekend at the Caledonian Stadium.

Caley Thistle started well and had the lead after just 10 minutes, Cameron Harper’s free-kick was whipped into the box and headed by Niko Ujdur and his effort was palmed into the path of Luis Longstaff in the box, who scrambled past Derek Gaston.

Caley Thistle doubled their lead after 31 minutes, Luis Longstaff’s low cross found Aaron Doran in the middle and he finished past Derek Gaston.

Billy Mckay added a third just after the break as he got on the end of a Mark Ridgers long ball and he lobbed the ball over Derek Gaston after 48 minutes.

Arbroath pulled one back with twenty minutes to go, Niko Udjur’s clearance hit against Scott Stewart and looped over Mark Ridgers to make it 3-1.

Arbroath got another one back through Michael McKenna and he finished low past Ridgers to set up a grand stand finish.

Caley Thistle held on to earn their first three points of the league campaign this season and with Partick Thistle coming up next.
