Match report
A brilliant Ross Tokely goal ensured that Caley Thistle won the Inverness Cup for the fourth year in a row. They fielded youngsters Scott Kellacher and Gary Nicol both on loan from Celtic. Jim Calder did well in 11 minutes to beat out a Neil Tarrant shot. In 28 minutes Davie Ross headed into the net for County but the referee blew for an infringement. In 33 minutes a Tokely cross fell to Duncan Shearer but his shot was blocked. Countys only other effort in the first half was a Steven Ferguson header which went over the bar in 35 minutes. County had more of the game in the second half and they came close to taking the lead in 54 minutes. A Calder goal kick to Tokely was returned to thekeeper with too much pace. To the relief of the defence it whistled past the post. In 57 minutes a free kick by Paul Kinnaird set up Neil Tarrant but he hit it past. The only goal came on the hour mark when a Barry Robson 25 yard free kick reached Ross Tokely running in. He neatly chipped it over a defender before thumping it into the net. It could have been 2-0 in 70 minutes when a Barry Wilson run set up Nicol just outside the box. He stood on the ball and the chance was lost. In 83 minutes Calder held a header from Gary Wood then 4 minutes later Wood hit a shot wildly past. This was Countys last chance and Caley Thistle took the trophy.
