Match report
Two fine first half goals and resolute second half defending won the game for Partick. Partick created two early chances with Paul McDonald involved in both. With two minutes gone his free kick from the right just eluded Kevin Gaughan and a minute later his 25 yard shot drifted past. Ten minutes later Kenny Arthur blocked a shot from Barry Robson despite not appearing to know much about it. On the 15 minute mark Partick took the lead through Paul Tosh. A Jim Calder clearance was headed back by Des McKeown and Tosh chipped it over the keeper. Four minutes later a Jamie McKenzie corner was headed clear by Mike Teasdale but Graham Connell stepped in and hit a first time thunderbolt into the net from 20 yards. It was late into the half before Caley Thistle again threatened just after the half-hour a Barry Wilson 25 yard shot was tipped over by Arthur, then with 5 minutes of the half left, a Robson corner reached the net but Scott Mclean was adjudged to have pushed the keeper. A minute later Charlie Christie was brought down by Alan Archibald but no penalty awarded. A minute further on a Mark McCulloch surge out of defence created a chance for Duncan Shearer his shot was blocked and McLean headed the rebound over the bar. The second half was a tale of chances created by Caley Thistle but stout defending by the home side. Robson and Mclean both had chances blocked before, in 53 minutes, a Wilson 8 yard snap shot was saved by Arthur. In 67 minutes Wilson was sent tumbling in the box by Willie Jamieson and this time it was a penalty. With regular penalty taker Paul Sheerin on the bench Wilson took it himself and made no mistake. Despite more pressure and a succession of corners it remained at 2-1 for Partick.
