Match report
The biggest game in the clubs history ended in disappointment for the thousands of fans who had come south by bus, car and special train. There was to be no happy ending to the Hampden fairytale as they watched Caley Thistle lose by the narrowest of margins. There were two defining moments in the match Julian Speronis wonder save from Dennis Wyness in nine minutes and Georgi Nemsadzes mishit shot which resulted in the winner in 78 minutes. In between there was plenty of action but few shots on goal. The most disappointed ICT player was Grant Munro who missed the game due to illness but otherwise John Robertson chose from a full squad. The Inverness side started well and Bobby Mann headed over a Richie Hart cross in the first minute. In seven minutes Paul Ritchie came close with a first time effort but it flew over the bar. Two minutes later Wyness let fly from 25 yards only to see Speroni somehow touch it onto the post when a goal looked certain. Hart hit over in 15 minutes then Dundee began to come more into the match. In 25 minutes a through pass left Steve Lovell closing in on Mark Brown but the keeper managed to get a touch to divert the shot for a corner. There was more danger in 32 minutes when Dundee were awarded a free kick 25 yards out but Ross Tokely headed for a corner. The pressure continued - Stuart McCaffrey made a vital clearance and a Lee Wilkie header was hooked away by Tokely. Play switched ends and in 34 minutes Ritchies 20 yard shot was deflected for a corner. Dundee should have scored in 38 minutes when a Lovell cross from the right reached Steven Milne in space he mishit and Mann headed clear. With five minutes of the first half left Wyness was brought down by Wilkie just 19 yards out but Manns free kick came off the wall. Dundee continued to take control in the second half and Caballero missed a great chance in 59 minutes. A chip over the defence found him on the six yard line with only Brown to beat. He tried to flick it over the advancing keeper but it cleared the bar. Barry Robson robbed Wilkie in 63 minutes but his pass found Wyness offside. Substitute Nacho Novo tested Brown from 25 yards in 69 minutes then the keeper robbed Novo four minutes later when he stumbled in front of goal. Speroni held a Robson free kick high in 76 minutes then came the winning goal with 12 minutes left. Caballero worked hard down the left then passed to Nemsadze on the 18 yard line he failed to connect cleanly but the ball deceived everybody and went in off the post. Charlie Christie and David Bagan came on with eight minutes left to freshen up the side but it was Dundee who continued to surge forward. In 85 minutes Nemsadze dribbled into the box on the left and his pass was deflected goalwards Mann cleared off the line. With only two minutes left a Robson free kick from the halfway line was taken by Speroni under pressure from Mann. In the two minutes of added time Man of the Match Caballero hit low past the post then Zurab Khizanishvili strode past two defenders before hitting over. The whistle went and Caley Thistles cup adventure was over.
