Match report
A disappointing performance from the visitors in the first half into a strong wind but a revival after the break ensured victory. Dennis Wyness celebrated his 150th appearance with a brace and Steve Hislop scored his first goal on his first start. The best chance for a first half breakthrough by the visitors came on the half hour mark when Kevin McMullen appeared to bring Barry Robson down in the box. No penalty was given and the unlucky McMullen was stretchered off with a dislocated shoulder. In first half injury time a long pass back towards Mark Brown was intercepted by Kevin Heenan he ran on, rounded Brown and scored with ease. In the second half Craig Hinchcliffes goal was bombarded and he made a number of excellent saves. Twice he blocked headers from Bobby Mann and a Roy McBain shot grazed the crossbar before the equaliser came in 67 minutes. Robson raced in on Hinchcliffe and the keeper dived at his feet the ball broke loose and Hislop fired into the empty net. A minute later a long Mann free kick was knocked into the path of Wyness by Hislop he volleyed home from 12 yards. Hinchcliffe denied Hislop with the save of the match before Wyness completed the scoring in 84 minutes. McBain slipped the ball to Wyness 20 yards out and he hit low past Hinchcliffe after a neat turn just inside the box. Falkirks goalless draw with Clyde closed the gap at the top St Johnstone lie seven points behind the leaders with Caley Thistle just a further point away in third place.
