Match report
This was an important result for the Inverness side - relegation worries were eased but not extinguished. It was a hard fought match which could have gone either way. Caley Thistle keeper Jim Calder was in excellent form. East Fife could have taken the lead in the first minute when Matt Dyer raced down the wing and centred for Gilbert Allan - he stumbled at the vital moment. The only goal came in the 9th minute from Brian Thomson. A Mike Teasdale run and cross caused problems for the defence - the ball rebounded off keeper Andy Stewart to Thomson and he scored easily from 1 yard. George Johnston brought out a brilliant Calder save with a bullet header after a Robert Prytz free kick. Matt Dyer was through on Calder in 35 minutes but the keeper stopped the ball with his legs. The visitors had two chances just after the interval. In 47 minutes Stewart and Thomson set up Paul Cherry but his shot sailed over. In 56 minutes Stewart was one-on-one with the keeper but hesitated and Johnston slid in to concede a corner. East Fife piled on the pressure but the defence held its ground. Gilbert Allan struck the outside of Calders post after the keeper ran out of his goal and slipped. Two late East Fife efforts were cleared off the line and the Inverness side held on.
