Match report
A tremendous victory for the Inverness side against the league leaders. In 7 minutes keeper Neil Inglis took the ball off the head of Shearer and at the other end a Paul Lovering 25 yard free kick was deflected off the wall in 13 minutes. In 24 minutes Colin McDonald pounced on a loose ball just inside the Inverness half but after making good ground he weakly shot past. A minute later there was an action replay and this time he made no mistake. The Inverness defence stood still as he darted onto a through pass he bore in on goal and carefully slipped it past Jim Calder to give Clydebank the lead. On 37 minutes the home side equalised. Barry Wilson was tripped in the area and Brian Thomson thumped home the penalty. The home side then pressed for another and Thomson came very close in 40 minutes. Shearer chested it into his path but Inglis did well to save his 20 yard drive. In 54 minutes Caley Thistle deservedly took the lead when a Barry Robson cross from the left was slid home by Duncan Shearer. 5 minutes later an almost carbon copy move made it 3-1. Another Robson cross reached Shearer 30 yards out - he controlled it, powered towards goal and hit it neatly past Inglis. In 77 minutes Clydebank scored through substitute Gary Teale. He took the ball from 40 yards out, shrugged off 2 defenders and shot past Calder from an acute angle. Caley Thistle regained control and created more chances. The best was 10 minutes from the end when a Thomson/Shearer 1-2 set the ex-Aberdeen player clear and on course for his hat-trick. The linesman was happy but the referee over-ruled him and gave offside. In the end the home side were delighted to take 3 precious points.
